Naturet geothermal fluids – a change in denaturation

May 3, 2021

The composition of the Naturet geothermal fluid products will change in terms of denaturation as of 1 May 2021. Starting from the date in question, the products’ denaturants are isopropanol and methylethyl ketone. The products’ properties, such as their ethanol content and freezing points, will remain unchanged. Nor will the change have an effect on the products’ mutual mixing.

In April, the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) published an impartial environmental risk review on energy wells’ impacts on groundwaters. In the context of this research, GTK also studied the environmental impacts of heat transfer solutions in the case of leakages. The environmental burden attributable to the ethanol and denaturants is minimal, local and temporary. The study’s findings indicated isopropanol to be less of a burden on the environment than the previously used methyl isobutyl ketone. As a producer of heat transfer solutions, we wanted to react to the finding, due to which we changed the composition of our products. The environmental burden of heat transfer solutions materialises only in the event of a system leakage or accident, both of which are, in practice, extremely rare.
